Mission of The Giving Thread Foundation

The Giving Thread Project weaves together people and purpose, connecting those who need help with those ready to give it, strengthening the fabric of our communities one act of kindness at a time.

Our Model

The Giving Thread Foundation operates as a community exchange network. While some neighbors may need immediate support, we believe everyone has something of value to offer whether time, skills, knowledge, or kindness.

If you receive help today, we encourage you to give back in any way you’re able, now or in the future.

Essential Needs Support

We help meet immediate, everyday needs such as grocery delivery, food assistance, clothing distribution, and basic household essentials. Our goal is to ensure that no neighbor goes without the basics required for dignity and stability.

Transportation Assistance

We connect volunteers with individuals who need help getting to medical appointments, job interviews, school commitments, or essential errands. Reliable transportation can open doors to opportunity and care.

Home & Yard Care

Volunteers assist with light home repairs, cleaning support, yard work, and seasonal tasks. These small acts of service help elderly, disabled, or overwhelmed individuals maintain safe and comfortable living environments.

Mentorship & Skill Support

We provide resume help, job application guidance, tutoring, and life-skill mentoring. By sharing knowledge and experience, we empower individuals toward long-term independence and growth.

Community Connection

Through friendly calls, check-ins, and community outreach, we combat isolation and strengthen human connection. Sometimes the most powerful support is simply knowing someone cares.

Donation Coordination

We collect and distribute in-kind donations such as food, clothing, school supplies, and hygiene products, directing resources where they are needed most within the community.

We Are In Formation

The Giving Thread Foundation is a community-driven initiative dedicated to connecting West Virginians in need with volunteers willing to share their time, skills, and resources. Our mission is simple: strengthen communities, one neighbor at a time.

We are currently in formation to become a registered nonprofit. This means:

We are working on the legal steps to become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Donations received at this time are not yet tax-deductible.
We are building the systems, volunteer network, and processes to serve our community safely and effectively.

How You Can Support Us Now

Even before official nonprofit status, your contributions help us:

Cover essential operational costs (forms, website, communications)
Support community requests with small, immediate needs
Recruit and coordinate volunteers

We welcome in-kind donations such as:

Grocery or gas gift cards
School supplies and household essentials
